Gabriele studied Automation and Control Engineering at Politecnico di Milano. During this period, he was advised by Nicola Gatti, did an internship in Google London, and was an official trainer for the Italian International Olympiads in Informatics (IOI) team given his previous experiences at IOI during high school.
Right after his bachelor’s in Milan, he moved to Pittsburgh for a Ph.D. at CMU, advised by Tuomas Sandholm.
Through his research, he strives to understand how optimization techniques can be leveraged to inform better decisions and outcomes under conditions involving uncertainty, hidden information, and different incentives for the agents involved. In particular, a work in collaboration between Polimi and CMU won the best paper award at NeurIPS 2020.
